DiGRA sets up shop in New York City

New York, NY — Game scholars and professionals from the tri-state area finally combine their efforts and establish the New York chapter of the Digital Games Research Association. Headed by well-known folks such as Eric Zimmerman (GameLab) and Mary Flanagan (TiltFactor Lab), the NYC-chapter will serve as a wormhole between academic and professional game universes.
Considering the many game companies located in NYC and the growing academic game research at its universities, it was only a matter of time before an official collaboration would break out. New York, a media industry par excellence, offers the perfect place to host conferences and incubate new perspectives  on gaming. DiGRA president Tanya Krzywinska approved the proposal today.
The first panel discussion is scheduled this fall, hosted by the Columbia Business School (date & schedule TBA). The following people make up the NY-chapter’s advisory board:

David Cole (DFC Intelligence)
Dennis Crowley (NYU)
Mary Flanagan (Hunter College/TiltFactor Lab)
Lewis Kofsky (Curious Pictures)
Liel Liebovitz (Columbia University)
Aram Sinnreich (NYU/Radar Research)
Martin Zagorsek (NPD Software/Parsons)
Eric Zimmerman (NYU/GameLab)

About Waffler

Half of the work in getting a Ph.D is purely logistical. This is my attempt to create a degree of coherence in the influx of game-related news, data, tidbits, announcements, CFPs, book reviews, commentary and nonsense that finds its way onto my screen every day.
