Timely Erection

It seems that setting up DiGRA NY came very soon after a report made its way around the usual news outlets. I had no idea.

The Center for an Urban Future published an 18-page report (.pdf) that explores the current landscape (counting 55 companies), its challenges and what mayor Bloomberg can do to help. According to our colleagues at IGDA, overhead and salaries are the two things that get in the way of making NYC the center of the gaming universe. Seed capital, however, is apparently not a big problem.

Both James Brightman (GameDaily) and Alexander Swilinski (joystiq) wrote their say, littered with Sinatra-references.

With an estimated 1,200 people working in the NY games industry, there should be plenty of opportunity to get together and chat it up at our fall conference.

About Waffler

Half of the work in getting a Ph.D is purely logistical. This is my attempt to create a degree of coherence in the influx of game-related news, data, tidbits, announcements, CFPs, book reviews, commentary and nonsense that finds its way onto my screen every day.
