Xbox really not doing so well, cont’d.

After my previous post, detailing numbers that seem to tell some analysts that M$ is “blowing away” the competition but really don’t, here’s more ammo. Despite the happy times for Xbox in the U.S., the console just isn’t doing much in Japan.

[Just FYI, I don't care what console sells better, and frankly think all of them are awesome in their own right, but I do care about the tremendous amount of hot air being pushed out as legitimate 'data'. Surely toning down E3 to offload some of the PR chaos and bring it back to a business event indicates that I'm not alone in this.]

While September and October are generally low selling months, and thus Sony and Nintendo refrain from releasing big titles (unlike M$), software sales have reached a new low.

But, with all eyes on the Xbox hardware sales, let’s just get straight to what the marketeers in Redmond aren’t telling you.

So, while Halo 3 may have spiked sales in the U.S., things are obviously not running as smoothly in Japan. It disconcerting to see that the 360 is being outsold 3:1 by a previous generation console, much in contrast to the celebratory 5:1 that topped M$’ recent press release (“Xbox 360 Tops Console Sales in September and outsells PS3 5:1″).

Nonetheless, I am hoping that all of these awesome systems do well: each in their own right provide a bunch of worthwhile titles. And with everyone working so hard to come up with the ultimate gaming experiences I don’t really see the scarcity.
